“The new iBikeConsole is actually a fairly innovative approach (I don't often use those words in tandem when describing the latest in a long glut of iPod accessories) to an under-addressed problem: attempting to bike with a soundtrack.” - gearlog.com

“Cycling with music is enjoyable, and I'm sure many of us out there use our iPod nanos on our cycling trips. Unfortunately, fiddling with the controls while one is on the road can be quite dangerous (to you and the other road users), which is why the iBikeConsole is an interesting device by itself.” - ubergizmo.com

“There is nothing smoother than cycling while listening to your iPod, especially if you are zipping through traffic at breakneck speeds. I like.” - gadgets.boingboing.net

Two activities that don't generally mesh well: ripping down a bumpy bike trail and toggling between songs on an iPod. TigraSport's new iBikeConsole makes it easier to juggle those actions by letting bikers change iPod Nano selections and adjust volume without removing their hands from the handlebars. We're not sure why this product is exclusive to the Nano, but we still like its emphasis on safer riding.” - news.cnet.com

iBikeConsole puts all your nano’s functions at your fingertips and converts your nano into a cycle computer which keeps you continuously versed with your current speed and trip distance (the data being stored on an independent memory chip so it's not lost when your nano is disconnected).” - watchesandstuff.blogspot.com

iBikeConsole lets you enjoy music while cycling

September 9th, 2008 by Edwin in Vehicle Gadgets, iPod gadgets

Any cyclist who wants to change tunes on their iPod will definitely find it to be something of a hassle, and in a careless moment, they pose as a safety hazard to themselves and other motorists as well. What better way to change your tunes and control your iPod in a safe manner than with the iBikeConsole?

The iBikeConsole ( http://www.ibikeconsole.com ) is a Made for iPod accessory that mounts securely to a bike’s stem or handlebars. The iBikeConsole acts like a docking station for an iPod Nano while also providing a safe and weatherproof housing for the player. In addition, it smartly combines a remote control system with a cycling computer. Cyclists can conveniently monitor their trip - distance and speed, while listening to their favorite tunes. The main functions of the iPod Nano and cycle computer are controlled wirelessly through a pair of patented key pads which can be easily mounted on the bike’s grips and operated with the thumbs. These silicon-covered key pads have large control buttons that can be activated even with gloves on.

Your iPod nano will end up with less battery life than expected since it is the source of power for the main iBike unit, but then again I’m assuming you aren’t training for the Tour de France, are you? Compatible with all three generations of the iPod nano, the iBikeConsole will retail for $86.

Strap your iPod nano to your handlebars with iBikeConsole

By Justin Berka | Published: September 09, 2008 - 10:15AM CT

Running with an iPod isn't too difficult, since you'll usually have a hand free to switch songs or pump up the volume, but things get a bit more difficult when you're cycling. Sure, you'll be able to operate the device fine most of the time, but steering one-handed while going down a hill may not be the best of ideas. If you've just got to have tunes while you're riding, Macworld has pointed out a device called the iBikeConsole, which will let you mount an iPod on your bike, use your iPod as a cycling computer, and even control your iPod wirelessly while riding.
According to the website, the system comes with a shock-absorbing mount for your iPod nano, although you don't exactly have to worry about the hard drive getting jostled around. All three generations of iPod nano are supported, and by the looks of the device the new iPod nanos should work as well. The mounting system requires no tools, and is also "weatherproof." The wireless remotes are probably the cooler part of the system, and allow cyclists to easily change songs and control the volume. Last but not least, the device lets your iPod double as a cycling computer, and can even store data after your ride is over.
As you might guess, a system like this probably isn't recommended for folks who ride their bikes in heavy traffic, since having your music thumping doesn't exactly make it easy to hear cars and other pain-inducing motorized contraptions that may be coming up behind you. In fact, several Macworld commenters point out that cycling with earplugs in both ears may be illegal in some states, so you might want to check out your local laws before you buy the iBikeConsole. If you're still sold on it, the system is currently retailing for $76, and you can just head on over to the site and pick one up.

Handlebar Mounted iPod Case with Thumb Controls and Trip Computer

By Charlie Sorrel EmailSeptember 09, 2008 | 3:46:59 AMCategories: Bicycles, Media Players

imageResizeLibrary.jpgWarning: Using headphones to listen to music while cycling is dangerous.
With that said, there are ways to make it safer. I listen to podcasts while on the road, and the voices don't drown out the traffic as much as music does. I also use some proper, over the head headphones which don't drop out of my ears or require constant adjustment. The only remaining problem is skipping tracks, pausing the music and changing the volume (especially on the iPod Touch).
Which means I'm all over the iBikeConsole Duo, a combination dock and trip computer for the iPod Nano. The handlebar (or stem) mount is shock absorbent and has a plastic cover to keep off light rain, and two more handlebar mounted thumb controls will perform the basic functions as easily as shifting gears. Bonus: running a cable to a sensor on the forks turns the iPod into a trip-computer, with distance and speed readouts on-screen.
The unit is powered by the iPod battery and the thumb controls both take flat lithium watch batteries to power their infra red transmitters. The price is a not-too-bad $86, and those controls are so low-key that they actually look like part of the brake or gear levers -- handy for thief-infested neighborhoods.

As we brace ourselves for the seemingly inevitably fourth-generation iPod nanos, one Hong Kong-based company is sending a little love to its predecessor. The new iBikeConsole is actually a fairly innovative approach (I don't often use those words in tandem when describing the latest in a long glut of iPod accessories) to an under-addressed problem: attempting to bike with a soundtrack.

The case clips to the center of your bikes handle bars, while waterproof and shock-proof controls attach on either side, putting the screen front and center, while assuring that your hands don't leave the handlebars as you attempt to adjust the volume or advance a track.

The Mode button, meanwhile, lets you "check your speed, trip distance, and more." Pretty snazzy, and the site has a nice little Flash demo of what the product looks like in action.

iBikeConsole is compatible with the first three generations of Nanos (no word on gen four, of course) and is available now for $76.

Seeing as how using the device means that your ears will be occupied and your eyes will spend an inordinate amount of time staring between the handlebars, I suppose the phrase "use with care" goes without saying.

iBikeConsole: take your nano two-wheelin'

I recently got a new bicycle, so I was interested to run across iBikeConsole, a new iPod nano-focused accessory designed for cyclists. It combines two wireless remote controls with a central weather-resistant iPod nano case. The remote controls mount inside the hand grips and can be used while wearing gloves, while the central case also includes a cycle computer with distance and speed functions displayed on the nano's screen. The whole thing is powered by the nano's battery, the it will store data even after the nano is removed.

It's designed to work with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation nanos. I contacted the manufacturer to check on compatibility with the just announced 4th gen nano, and they say that they have yet to get one and so cannot confirm compatibility. We'll update this post when more information is available.

iBikeConsole is available for $76.00.

iBikeConsole Helps Keep You Safe

Cycling with music is enjoyable, and I'm sure many of us out there use our iPod nanos on our cycling trips. Unfortunately, fiddling with the controls while one is on the road can be quite dangerous (to you and the other road users), which is why the iBikeConsole is an interesting device by itself. It allows one to take full control of the iPod nano without moving one's hands away from the grips, and can be placed in a visible position without having rain and shock harming it. In addition, you will be able to keep track of your current speed, trip distance and other essential information all from the comfort of your nano's display. It is compatible with all three generations of the iPod nano and will retail for $76.
